Surprise surprise! A few days after our Singapore wedding, I received an email with a hotel voucher to spend the weekend in Bintan. My very lovely cousin sponsored us a weekend getaway! She coordinated with my brother to ensure we were not already away for our honeymoon immediately after the wedding celebration. Surprise success! Truth is, the engagement and weddings in Indonesia & Singapore happened so quickly that we did zero planning for our honeymoon. We’ve been married for more than a year now and still no concrete plans for honeymoon anytime soon. Perhaps one after our french marriage celebration!

Getting to Bintan island was easy and it took us approximately 50 minutes by ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (Singapore) and arrived at Bandar Bentan Telani Ferry Terminal (Bintan). Upon arrival, take a quick look around to find your hotel/resort concierge where they will transport you directly to your accommodation via a minivan. So what’s there to do, to see and to eat?

Where we stayed: Cassia Bintan which is under the Banyan Tree Group presents an ideal destination for a weekend getaway. Hang out and be at ease in the integrated apartment-style living space that is like home. Cassia is also a resort within the same premise as Angsana Bintan & Banyan Tree. While each resort have their own private pool, they also share the same private beach.

What we did: Eat – Swim – Sleep – Repeat was what we did! We were really exhausted from the wedding celebration the week before and needed to recharge desperately.

What we ate: Truth is, Bintan is a pricey tourist destination targeting predominantly Singaporeans. A can of Bintang beer cost around SGD8 at the hotel. Since Cassia is in the same vicinity of Banyan Tree and Angsana, guests can explore the hotel grounds easily so we took the opportunity and dined at Treetops, a Indonesian restaurant on the hill top overlooking the South China Sea. Food was divine, the view was incredible and they even had a live band playing infront of us while we ate our desserts. Sweeeeeet!

If we had more time: I would like to re-visit Bintan and this time, to visit these popular attractions. Penyengat Island, Lagoi Beach and the Grand Mosque of the Sultan of Riau.
